Project Summary

Formula was contracted to complete a design/build rehabilitation in collaboration with AltaGas and Coast Mountain Hydro on the Ningunsaw Bridge. This structure was the lifeline to the Forrest Kerr Power project and was used to transport everything from equipment to food and water.

Built in the 1980’s with less desirable construction materials, the main objective of the Ningunsaw bridge rehabilitation was to increase the bridge load capacity from 60 tons to 100 tons.

Formula created constructability proposal with engineer to include steel reinforcement and deck panels. The scope included removal of existing bridge deck, structural strengthening, and installation of a new composite concrete deck. This was achieved by installing temporary steel piled bents, steel shim removal and top girder flange preparation. The project was completed with intermittent road closures as the bridge was needed to stay open.
